When parents separate, one of the first questions anyone asks is, “What happens with the kids?” Current law in most states gives judges practically carte blanche authority to issue temporary orders that place children primarily or wholly in the care of just one parent. One situation that is all-too-common is that one parent gets custody of the children, and the other is ordered “visitation” every other weekend.

The International Platform on Shared Parenting met in Bonn, Germany last week to review the latest research on shared parenting and to urge governments to alter family laws and court practices accordingly. The National Parents Organization is proud to be a part of this excellent organization and for NPO’s Chairman of the Board, Ned Holstein to be a presenter at the conference.

A CHARITY representing fathers has vowed to lobby the Scottish Parliament on the need for equal access to children after attending an international conference in Bonn.
Support group Families Need Fathers Scotland said parents must find better ways to end conflict so that their children can escape the damage and benefit from the support of fathers and mothers, something that was often lost in modern society.

In the context of international cooperation and networking, the "Project Group Shared Parenting", which was initiated by the German organisation Väteraufbruch für Kinder e.V. (VAfK), hosts a kick-off workshop in Bonn on August 10-11, 2013. Our cooperation partners who participate in this workshop are scientists, family professionals and representatives of European and American parent organisations.

Fathers and Families has just introduced five family law bills in the 2013 Massachusetts session. Representative Colleen Garry, D-Dracut, worked with Fathers and Families to submit legislation on presumption of shared parenting, military child custody, removals, parental involvement with childcare, and establishing paternity.
